New Hero class: Soul Hunter

the soul hunter is an attempt at a shapeshifter type hero, ive been playing with the idea of 'shapeshifting' for Hq for a while, but could never get a way to make it work comfortably within HQ's rules. so this is the next best thing. i will try to find a mini for it. hope you like

Soul Hunter
You are a Soul Hunter, from a rare and mysterious tribe you have ventured out into the world to fight the forces of chaos, your magics are unusual and unsettling, use them with caution.

Attack = 2 Dice
Defence = 2 Dice
Move = 2 Dice

Body = 6
Mind = 4

Starting weapon= Shortsword, bow
Starting armour = none

Soul Stealing.
Whenever a Soul Hunter lands the killing blow on a monster, he steals a portion of their soul, taking it into him and altering him slightly. Changing his attributes depending on what monster he killed. This is a beneficial effect from most creatures, but some will impose a curse like affliction, a soul hunter can only have 1 soul effect at a time and these effects only last until they are replaced with another soul ability.

Goblin – Nimble: +1 attack die when using a ranged weapon.
Orc- Savagery: +1 attack die in melee combat
Fimir – Regeneration: immediately restores 2 lost health points and then fades.
Skeleton – Swiftness: +2 to all movement rolls
Mummy – Resilience: +1 attack die in defence
Zombie – Stench of the grave: all movement rolls of the soul hunter and any allies in the same room or corridor reduced by 2.
Chaos Warrior/Wizard – Corruption: lose 1 health point
Gargoyle – Stoneskin: may count black shields when defending.
Ogre- Gigantic- Increase total and current health by 1

Wow, class idea. That would be an awesome character to play. Kind of like 'Highlander' absorbing the power of the last monster killed etc. Adds different dynamics in the way that you would not want to be the person to 'kill' zombies or choas warriors.

Would this allow scope to absorb a boss' (such as the With Lord's) ability / power/ spells etc?

I'd randomize the power in this instance. 1d10, re-roll a 0/10.

This is an excellent idea. I, too, think it is very interesting adding in a couple of things that could be
negative. That character, then, would have to be careful where they go and how they enter a battle.

id treat bosses as a chaos sorcerer, and lose 1 body point for killing them. the idea being that the soul hunter is absorbing some of the chaos energy which is ultimately harmful to life, or, the amount of power they absorb is too much for their bodies and again, causes 1 point of damage. it would be at the dungeon masters discretion which (or even if) soul effect would apply.

I really dig this idea. The randomization is a great touch too. Nice work. now if you dont mind,,, i might make a Soul Hunter character option for my hero crew.. thanks again for the fresh idea.

I'd add the option to roll a die if you kill a monster but you want to keep the current abilities. skull = you may keep current, white shield = you get the new skill, black = you lose all skills (as a penalty for choosing the roll option)

Drop the starting bow. That's too big an advantage starting out, especially with the ability on top of it.
