My new HeroQuest box

Postby Necrothug » Tuesday February 28th, 2012 6:40pm

So I've been working on some things for my HQ set, and here is my latest project. My HQ box was in rough shape, so I decided to make something a little more permanent. Here's the new box I've been working on. I'll post more pics of the inside a little later, but here's the outside for starters. The box was built by hand, then stained and clear-coated. Then I added the logos using a product I found at Hobby Lobby.

What do you think?

Sweetness. I had this thought and never followed up on it. Your work is proding me to get one made.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. What is this product you used for the logos?

It is called Graffix Rub-Onz. You print your design (in reverse) onto a sheet of plastic. Then attach an adhesive to it and then attach to your surface by rubbing it on. It was very simple to use. Due to the transparency of the printer ink on the plastic, I chose shades of brown for the various parts of the design and was pleased to find it came out looking like different shades of stain.

Here's the product website:

Since taking that picture, I've actually changed the top designs a little. Thats another great thing about this product, it peels/cleans off really easy. I'm sure its ability to do that depends on the surface you put it on, but with polyurethaned wood, it cleaned off easily.

oh my lord that's amazing! can you post a pic of it opened too?
I'd like to see what you can fit inside. I need a good idea for my miniatures. Now they're all cluttered in the original box, bad for the paintjob...

I've still got a little to finish up on the inside, but I will be posting pics of the rest very soon.

Very cool! We are like those super dedicated star wars fans. Would we be considered a cult following?

What an absolutely stunning piece of work. Loving it. I only wish I could find the sense of purpose and inspiration to get something like that done for one my games that deserves it!
